Local Server Setup & Live Web Hosting Master Guide

Complete step-by-step tutorial on installing XAMPP local server, running databases, launching pages, acquiring a Virtual Visa Card, buying domain & hosting on Namecheap, and making online payments.

Part 1: Local Server

XAMPP Installation & DB Launch

Download & Install XAMPP

Visit apachefriends.org and download XAMPP installer for Windows or macOS. Double-click xampp-windows-x64-installer.exe, follow the setup wizard, select Apache & MySQL, and install to default path C:\xampp.

Start Server & Connect Database

Open XAMPP Control Panel from Desktop or Start Menu. Click Start buttons next to both Apache and MySQL until they turn green.

Open your web browser and go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin.
Click Databases > Enter DB name (e.g., school_db) > Click Create.
Click Import tab, select your project's database.sql file, and click Go.

Launch Your Website Page

Copy your project root folder into XAMPP web directory: C:\xampp\htdocs\my_project\.

Configure Connection: Edit db.php or library_ai.php:

Part 2: Hosting & Payment

Virtual Card & Namecheap Hosting

Create Virtual Visa Card for Online Payment

To pay online internationally, create a Virtual Visa/Mastercard using mobile financial services or banking apps:

Vodacom M-Pesa / Airtel Money / Tigo Pesa: Dial USSD code or open App > Select Financial Services > Virtual Card / Mastercard > Create Card.
Pyppl / Chipper Cash / NMB / CRDB App: Log in, select Cards, choose Create Virtual Visa Card, and top up required dollar/shilling amount.
Note down: Card Number (16 digits), Expiry Date (MM/YY), and CVV (3 digits).

Buy Domain & Hosting on Namecheap

Go to Namecheap.com:

Search Domain: Type desired name (e.g., aitanzania.ink) > Click Add to Cart.
Select Hosting: Click Hosting menu > Shared Hosting (Stellar Plan) > Click Get Started.
Link your domain to the hosting package and click Confirm Order.

Checkout Payment & Deploy Live

Create or log into your Namecheap account. On payment selection screen, choose Secure Card Payment:

Enter Name on Card, 16-digit Virtual Card Number, Expiry Date, and CVV.
Click Pay Now. Complete OTP SMS verification if required by your bank/app.
Once payment succeeds, log into cPanel, open File Manager, upload your project .zip into public_html/, extract, and import database via live phpMyAdmin!

System Setup Guide

Step-by-step installation instructions for Localhost & Live Hosting

Running on Localhost (XAMPP / WAMP / MAMP)

Extract the downloaded .zip file into your server root folder:
- XAMPP: C:/xampp/htdocs/your-folder-name/
- WAMP: C:/wamp64/www/your-folder-name/
Open your browser and navigate to http://localhost/phpmyadmin.
Create a new Database (e.g. school_db).
Click on Import tab, choose the database.sql file provided inside the extracted folder, and click Go.
Open the database configuration file (e.g., db.php or config.php) inside your project code and configure your connection credentials:

Deploying to Live Web Hosting (cPanel)

Log in to your cPanel account provided by your hosting provider (e.g., Namecheap, Hostinger, local servers).
Open File Manager and navigate to public_html/ (or your domain's subfolder).
Upload the .zip file and click Extract.
Go back to cPanel main menu and open MySQL Databases:
- Create a new Database name (e.g., aitanzan_schooldb).
- Create a new Database User and strong password.
- Add the User to the Database and grant ALL PRIVILEGES.
Open phpMyAdmin from cPanel, select your newly created database, and import the database.sql file.
Edit your db.php or config.php file with live host credentials:

Connecting Beem SMS Gateway API

Required for automated SMS alerts on Attendance and Lesson Plan notifications in Tanzania and East Africa.

Create or log into your account at Beem Africa (beem.africa).
Navigate to SMS Dashboard > API Manager to obtain your:
- API Key
- Secret Key
- Sender ID (e.g., INFO or your registered school Sender ID)
Open your project's SMS integration file (e.g., beem_sms.php or config.php) and update keys:
